What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove skin, and/or to add or remove fat from the eyelids. The term “eyelid lift” is a misconception, because the eyelid is not lifted during surgery.
The procedure differs, whether you having it performed on the upper or lower eyelid.
During a lower blepharoplasty procedure, Dr. Sayeg will either make an incision directly below the lash line or an incision on the inside of the eyelid. An incision inside the lid allows access to eyelid fat without visible incisions, making this technique perfect for patients who need fat removed or added.
During upper blepharoplasty surgery, Dr. Sayeg makes an incision on the eyelid to remove skin and fat. A thin stitch is then used to bring the skin together to allow for a creation of an eyelid crease.
The result is a more youthful appearance of the eyelid. Eyes will look larger, lids less drooping and the puffiness is removed.
Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?
If you have drooping or baggy eyelids, and have reasonable expectations, you may be a good candidate. Dr. Sayeg will discuss the outcome of your surgery with you.
How long is recovery from blepharoplasty surgery?
Bruising and swelling are usually worse on the day after surgery, and they quickly dissipate. Using cool compresses can greatly reduce bruising and swelling around the eyes and face. Thin bandages are usually placed over the incision sites and removed in several days, while the stitches can remain in the skin for about a week. Sometimes self-absorbing stitches are used that do not require removal.
