Is your entire face wrinkled or sagging? A facelift is the most extensive way to remove or reduce these appearances caused by age.
What is a facelift?
In a traditional facelift, Dr. Sayeg literally lifts the skin off the face, so the underlying tissues and muscles can be tightened. In addition, Dr. Sayeg may remove some fat and excess skin. Then the skin is repositioned over the face, resulting is a smooth, fresh face.
Although a facelift can make your face appear younger and healthier, taking years off your face, it will continue to age. If you are experiencing anxiety over aging, a facelift may increase self-confidence and reduce anxiety over growing older.
A facelift can reduce signs of aging to a great extent, but it cannot reverse sun damage to the skin or remove all facial wrinkles around the eyes, below the nose, and around the lips.
Am I a good candidate for a facelift?
As with other cosmetic procedures, you are more likely to be happy with the results of your facelift if you have clear, realistic expectations about what the surgery can achieve.
How long is recovery from a facelift?
Facelift surgery usually takes several hours. You may be able to go home that day, but people sometimes spend one night in the hospital.
Your face will be bandaged after surgery, and the dressings are usually removed within one or two days. If a drainage tube has been placed, it will also be removed one or two days after surgery. Dr. Sayeg will remove your stitches in five to ten days. You may be prescribed pain medications.
Expect to have facial swelling and bruising. Cold compresses can help, as well as keeping your head elevated as much as possible.
Most people can return to their normal activities two to three weeks after a facelift. At first your face will feel stiff and will probably look and feel strange to you. This is normal, but it is important to be prepared for it.
